Old Man and the Sea-Q. 3

This question about The Old Man and the Sea intimidated me but then we had the book chat and everything made sense. During the online book chat we talked about what the theme might be. It was brought up by someone that the theme might be a relation of the old man to Jesus. When I heard this I didn't realize what they had said and didn't understand, but soon agreed. I realized that many of the stories in the book are a lot like the life of Jesus.
In the beginning of the book many people didn't like or care about the old man, which is just how Jesus was treated in his first years as a disciple. I also felt that the fish represented the reader because when the old man caught the fish he wasn't letting go, and that is like Jesus holding on to us and never letting go no matter how hard we try to run away He will always win. Once the fish was caught is like you having Jesus in your heart and your were hooked on God. The sharks that nibbled at the fish are like satan or your sins and a chunk of the righteous you with God is then missing and gone. Eventually the entire fish was gone and you had died rightously, but with the help of God once you die you can go to Heaven and have a life after death and that is what the skeleton of the fish represents.
Reading this book was easy for me and I enjoyed it, but I can't say I completely understood the theme or point of the book at first. Once we had the book chat it really helped me to understand and after some thinking I knew that it was an awesome book. I am excited that the theme came to me after some help that easily. Ernest Hemingway did a great job writing this book and I want to read more of his books when i have time.
